        • The Head of School is responsible for administration of The Canopy School educational services provided to the students.
        • Works with the staff to plan, organize and implement school activities and services, including operations, curriculum, scheduling, staff development, and development of individual education plans.
        • Must hire, train, and manage all staff.
        • Maintains good relationships with students, staff, and parents.
        • Establishes positive relationships with donors and possible feeder entities in conjunction with Advancement staff.
        • Complies with the chain of command.Job ResponsibilitiesEducational Responsibilities
          • Monitor attendance reports monthly.
          • Maintain records on materials, supplies and equipment necessary for the daily school routine.
          • Involve staff in determining priorities for instructional supplies.
          • Maintain appropriate progress reports and report cards as scheduled.
          • Ensure that all students are appropriately assessed.
          • Facilitate the development of annual Individualized Educational Programs or Individualized Service Plans for students.
          • Participate in all IEP Meetings as the organization representative for the school.
          • Work with area colleges and universities to develop and implement internships and volunteer activities as a part of the school curriculum.
          • Supervise interns and communicate with colleges and universities related to their responsibilities.
          • Maintain current education/training in special education, learning disabilities, emotionally disturbed, ADHD, special education trends, special education laws, and curriculum design.Administrative Support
            • Provide regular meetings with educational staff.
            • Facilitate professional growth of school staff and enhance the quality of the instructional program.
            • Conceptualize broad goals of the school and plan accordingly to ensure procedures and schedules are implemented to carry out the total school program.
            • Ensure instructional objectives for a given subject and/or classroom are developed, involving staff and others in the development of specific curricular objectives to meet the needs of the school program.
            • Orient and assist new staff members and provide opportunities for their input in the school program.
            • Develop procedures for school processes such as lesson plans, weekly parent communication, substitute procedures, grading submission timelines, student behavior, transportation organization and flow, safety protocols and drills, and medicine storage and administration.
            • Perform other duties as assigned.
            • Implement the school curriculum for students at The Canopy School.
            • Furnish necessary supplies and instructional aides to staff for the improvement of instruction.
            • Participate in and/or lead curriculum development activities commensurate with school and organization goals.
            • Identify curricular and extracurricular needs by analyzing current programs and student achievement.
            • Regularly use results of student assessment data to identify problems and implement program improvements.
            • Emphasize student achievement as the primary outcome of schooling.
            • Work with staff to systematically identify and respond to at-risk students; make referrals to appropriate organization personnel when needed.
            • Model and facilitate good human relations skills; effectively interact with others.
            • Responsible for recruiting, screening, hiring, training, and evaluation of the school's professionals, Behavioral-Educational Interventionist, support staff, volunteers, and interns.
            • Listen and respond to staff, student, and community concerns.
            • Develop communications that reflect and support management team decisions in the implementation of TCS policies.
            • Effectively utilize community resources and volunteers to promote student learning.
            • Identify problem areas and seek solutions before crisis situations develop.
            • Effectively delegate decision making and problem solving to appropriate personnel.
            • Delegate authority to responsible personnel to assume responsibility for the school in the absence of the principal.
            • Ensure that the requirements for the Educable Child Program are met.
            • Meet accreditation requirements and complete process to maintain accreditation on an annual basis.Required Qualifications
              • Minimum of master's degree with a master's or higher in Special Education or Education preferred.
              • License in Education Administration required.
