                  The Phlebotomist will identify patients properly and utilize phlebotomy methods proficiently (e.g. venipuncture, skin puncture). The Phlebotomist will also be responsible for preserving patient health and the quality of samples.

                  Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
                  • Arrange daily activities based on urgency of requests for samples (stat vs. routines)
                  • Identify patients and their personal information using their ID, armband, documents or other means
                  • Determine the right venipuncture method based on patient age, health, etc.
                  • Reassure patients and help them relax
                  • Find veins that are suitable for puncture
                  • Draw blood using sterilized needles, vials, and other equipment
                  • Ensure optimal quality and quantity of samples
                  • Label samples correctly and send or deliver them for testing
                  • Answer patient questions and provide useful information
                  • Keep accurate records on fluid specimens and tests
                  • Keep phlebotomy area and trays stocked and clean at all times
                  • Collects therapeutic phlebotomies
                  • Collect chain of custody drug screens and blood draws for legal purposes
                  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection control and hazardous waste policies and protocols
                  • Performs clerical duties associated with supporting the laboratory
                  • Adheres to all hospital and departmental policies and procedures
                  • Attend and participate in in-service education program, on-the-job training programs, etc. as directed or scheduled
                  • Performs all other duties as assigned Skills:
                    • Proven experience as a Phlebotomist or Phlebotomy Technician
                    • Experience with effective puncture techniques
                    • Understanding proper patient identification methods
                    • Ability to use computers to enter information
                    • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, physicians, and hospital staff
                    • Basic computer skills
                    • Professional, friendly attitude
                    • Excellent bedside manner
                    • In-depth knowledge of health and safety guidelines and procedures
                    • Working knowledge of healthcare laws and regulations
                    • Team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
                    • Responsible and compassionate
                    • Outstanding organizational and multi-tasking skills
                    • Excellent problem-solving skills
                    • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
                    • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices

                      Physical Requirements:

                      The Phlebotomist must have the ability to move around freely, walk and stand for long periods of time; use stomach and lower back muscles to support the body for long periods without getting tired; use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls; bend or twist their body; understand the speech of another person and speak clearly so listeners can understand; and see details of objects that are less than a few feet away and at a distance. A minimal amount of lifting is required.
